Guides For Teachers & Students
Every fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-grade student in Lincoln Public Schools visits the Sheldon on a field trip. This page features guides that are designed to assist these students and their teachers in learning about the museum and its collections.
Fourth Grade: Beginner Tour features an introduction to art museums, museum manners, the Sheldon building and staff, and important objects in our collection. It includes historical background and fun ideas for activities useful in the classroom before or after a docent-led tour.
Fifth Grade: Permanent Collection Tour explores the current exhibition of works from Sheldon's permanent collection, focusing particularly on paintings and works on paper.
Sixth Grade: Sculpture Garden Tours offer information about artists and objects along with questions and suggestions for activities. In addition to a general overview tour, you'll find below a number of guides to specific sculptures arranged by their location within the garden. For more general information about the garden and a brief audio tour, click on Sheldon Sculpture Garden.
