Surls, who creates wooden objects with intriguing designs, has had works shown in major museums including the Whitney, Guggenheim and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Born in 1943 in Terrell, Texas, he now lives and works in Carbondale, Colorado, which is near Aspen. Surls's sculpture in Sheldon Survey is Flowers on the Wall, 2006, wood and bronze, 51 X 80 X 13 inches. |
