Artist James Surls Talks About Scupture and Drawing

James Surls discusses the art world and his work with Sheldon staff members. Surls, who creates wooden objects with intriguing designs, has had works shown in major museums including the Whitney, Guggenheim and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Born in 1943 in Terrell, Texas, he now lives and works in Carbondale, Colorado, which is near Aspen.

Surls's sculpture in Sheldon Survey is Flowers on the Wall, 2006, wood and bronze, 51 X 80 X 13 inches.

Sheldon Connections 3 Opening
More than 200 attended the opening for Sheldon Connections 3 on Friday, September 14. Artists included in the exhbition are: Jake Gillespie, Eddie Dominguez, Caitlin Applegate, Leslie Iwai and Nolan Tredway, in collabortion with Ryan Turner and Lindsey Jonak. In addition, Grant Brownyard and Diane Nelson offer experimental videos in the coffee shop area.

Howlooseanation played in the Great Hall at the conclusion of the reception.
