Eddie Dominguez's life as an artist began as a child in a furniture shop owned by his oldest brother. It was a playground of texture and colors. Its attractions stayed with him during his years at the Cleveland Institute of Art, where he earned a bachelor of fine arts degree, and through graduate school at New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. Dominguez currently teaches at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. During a lecture at Hallmark Cards Inc., Dominguez said that after he left school, he needed to capture "how I used to feel about art before I learned about art."1 He turned to folk art for inspiration, and duplicates this spirit in his work. Dominguez doesn't feel that it is necessary to distinguish between fine art and craft when viewing his work. |
